In early 2022, an English consultation email from Iraq appeared in our corporate mailbox, concise but powerful: “Good day, I need details 20ton/hr of pellet machinery.”
This email was sent by an Iraqi agricultural investor who is planning to significantly increase the proportion of local poultry feed produced by himself to reduce dependence on imported feed and further support the development of animal husbandry during the country’s reconstruction.
After two months of technical discussions and business dealings, on March 9, 2022, we officially signed a contract with the customer for a contract amount of up to US$506,000. The project is a complete set of 10 tons per hour poultry feed production line turnkey project.
Although the customer initially expressed his desire to learn about the 20 t/h production line configuration, after further understanding of production matching, capital budget and operational capabilities, he finally decided to choose a more flexible and cost-effective 10 t/h solution to ensure a steady start in production and a rapid implementation of the poultry feed mill project.
After the chicken feed production line in Iraq project is implemented, it will not only cover the needs of laying hens and broilers on its own farms, but also supply customized feed to surrounding farmers.

Project Background
The client of this chicken feed production line in Iraq project is an agricultural operator who has been active in Baghdad and Kurdistan for many years. He has a typical dual identity background: on the one hand, he is a medium-sized poultry farmer responsible for the daily operation of about 80,000 broilers and laying hens; on the other hand, he is also a member of the private cooperation in Iraq’s agricultural revival plan and has participated in several government-led “feed modernization” initiatives.
As the domestic security situation gradually stabilizes, he decided to increase the self-sufficiency rate of feed by introducing modern pellet feed processing equipment, and at the same time, use feed processing as an entry point to expand the downstream agricultural inputs market and further broaden the agricultural economic chain.
After the epidemic, the instability of international transportation, rising inflation and export restrictions by some neighboring countries caused the price of imported feed to soar by nearly 40%.
Therefore, establishing a self-produced and self-sold chicken feed mill plant is not only a business strategy, but also a national task to stabilize the breeding foundation and enhance the resilience of the industry.

Raw material structure adapted to local conditions: Interpretation of Iraqi local resources for feed
Although Iraq has an arid climate, it is not a place lacking in raw materials. Based on the chicken feed production line in Iraq project positioning and local agricultural by-product resources, the client identified the following categories as core chicken feed raw materials:
- Corn: Mainly from agricultural cooperatives in Mosul and Kirkuk, with a crude protein content of about 8-9%, providing the main energy source for feed.
- Wheat Bran: A by-product from flour mills, rich in fiber and a small amount of protein, it is a good energy and volume additive.
- Soybean Meal: Mainly imported through the Port of Basra, sometimes also purchased from Iranian border mills, is the main provider of protein.
- Sunflower Seed Cake: A by-product of local oil mills, economical and affordable, with a moderate oil content, can replace part of soybean meal.
- Stone powder, premix and eggshell powder: used to supplement calcium, phosphorus and trace elements.
This combination makes full use of Iraq’s own resources, while also saving a lot of raw material procurement and transportation costs for the chicken feed production line in Iraq project, laying the foundation for the subsequent low-cost production.

Although the customer put forward the demand for “customized animal feed processing technology”, the process is not blindly pursuing complexity, but on the basis of a stable standard process, the adaptability is optimized, taking into account efficient production capacity and easy equipment maintenance.
The entire process of this chicken feed production line in Iraq is as follows:
- Raw material feeding (granular and powder): a dual feeding system is set to handle bulk powdered raw materials and granular bulk materials respectively, which is convenient for rapid feeding and automatic iron and impurity removal.
- Primary crushing: using an efficient hammer mill to coarsely crush large-particle raw materials such as corn and wheat bran, and the particle size is controlled within the applicable range of chicken feed.
- Automatic metering and precision batching system: setting multiple formula programs can accurately control the proportion of each raw material, with an error of less than 0.3%, ensuring a stable nutritional ratio.
- Horizontal double-shaft mixing + liquid addition system: automatic oiling, enzyme preparations, and flavoring agents are added to improve the palatability and digestibility of feed, and the mixing time and speed are adjustable.
- Pellet mill section: The chicken feed pellet machine uses a double-wheel ring die feed mill pellet machine, with precise temperature control, uniform feed pellet length, smooth surface, and is conducive to chickens eating.
- Countercurrent cooling system: The feed temperature after pelleting is about 80°C, and it is cooled to room temperature to ensure that there is no moisture during the packaging process.
- Pellet Crumbler: Crumble some pellets to obtain finely crushed pellets that are more suitable for chicks to eat.
- Screening device: Screen out unqualified pellets and powder, achieve pellet uniformity grading, and improve the yield rate.
- Fully automatic packaging and sewing system: fast weighing, filling, and sewing, no manual handling required, reducing losses and improving packaging efficiency.
The entire chicken feed production line in Iraq not only achieves a stable output of 10t/h, but also realizes the co-processing of different feed specifications for young chickens and adult chickens through precise ingredient mixing and crushing design, greatly improving the adaptability and economy of the poultry feed mill equipment.

- Batching system: four independent metering silos, PLC control, error <0.3%
- Mixing system: double-shaft paddle mixer, single batch mixing time 60s-90s, CV value <5%
- Pelletizing system: double-pressure wheel ring die chicken feed pellet machine, power 160kw, ring die diameter 508mm
- Cooling system: countercurrent cooler, automatic discharge, with material level alarm
- Crumbling system: double-roll differential crusher, adjustable particle size 1.2mm-3.5mm
- Screening equipment: rotary screening machine, adjustable number of layers, easy to replace the screen
- Packaging system: dual-scale high-speed weighing packaging machine, 10-50kg adjustable, integrated sewing machine
In addition, in order to adapt to the hot and dry climate in Iraq in summer, we have specially carried out localized and strengthened design of the cooling and oil addition system of the pelletizing system to avoid excessive water loss of feed during pelleting and ensure the quality of the final product.

Although the core focus of this chicken feed production line in Iraq project is poultry pellets, the equipment configuration of this production line has reserved multiple expansion capabilities. Simply by changing the mold or adjusting the process parameters, the following products can be easily processed:
- Broiler feed, laying hen feed, laying period feed
- Ruminant concentrate (cattle and sheep)
- Poultry premix and fattening pellets
- Rabbit feed, pigeon feed and other special poultry feeds

As the shadow of war gradually dissipates, Iraqi agriculture is entering a “structural reconstruction period”. The country’s policy of encouraging the combination of agriculture and animal husbandry and reducing import dependence has provided great space for the local feed industry. Taking chicken feed as an example, the country currently only meets about 45% of the total demand, especially standardized pellet feed is in short supply.
The area where this chicken feed production line in Iraq project is located is about 160 kilometers away from the capital Baghdad, and is a traditional agricultural center. - Localized innovation and risk avoidance design: To ensure the long-term and stable operation of the chicken feed mill plant project, we have added the following innovative contents to this project:
- Backup power system design: In view of the instability of the local power grid, a diesel generator set interface is provided to ensure that key links are not interrupted.
- Dust prevention and heat insulation treatment: The crushing and granulation areas are equipped with a central vacuum system and a roof insulation coating to prevent equipment damage due to dust accumulation or temperature rise.
- Remote monitoring system: PLC can be connected to the Internet module, and technicians can remotely monitor parameters such as temperature, humidity, and moisture content of particles, which is conducive to cross-border operation and maintenance.
- Local training plan: The project contract includes 3 weeks of local operator training to improve the skills of front-line workers and reduce the risk of misoperation in the later stage.

As the production line becomes more stable, the customer has planned to purchase an additional small animal feed production line related to aquatic feed, and plans to complete the registration and export certification of the feed brand by 2025. In the future, this 10t/h chicken feed pellet production line may evolve into the core node of the “Southern Iraq Feed Industry Cluster”.
