Waste Wood Straw Pellet Production Line in Ukraine

Waste Wood Straw Pellet Production Line in Ukraine

The 7t/h waste wood straw pellet production line in Ukraine was not designed as a “big industrial showcase” from the start. It came out of a very practical situation: too much agricultural residue sitting in open yards and too much low-value wood waste from small sawmills nearby.

From a technical standpoint, this 7t/h waste wood & straw pellet production line in Ukraine is a mid-scale biomass pelletizing system built around mixed raw materials—mainly straw and waste wood with relatively high moisture content. The line is configured for stable year-round operation rather than peak output, which is something the client emphasized repeatedly during early discussions.

What makes this biomass pellet project interesting is not just the capacity (7 tons per hour), but how the system was adapted to handle inconsistent raw material moisture and particle size, which is quite typical in Eastern Europe.

The 7t/h waste wood & straw pellet production line in Ukraine is designed with three parallel pelletizing lines installed inside an existing workshop of approximately 2,500 m², with an additional 1,500 m² outdoor area used for storage and logistics.

Instead of overcomplicating the layout, the plant follows a very practical flow:

  • West side: crushing → grinding → drying
  • Center: pelletizing + dust collection
  • East side: finished product storage

Simple, but it works. And more importantly, it’s easy for operators to manage.

The first message we received from the client was short and slightly vague:

“We have straw and wood waste. Moisture is high. Need stable pellet line, not too complex.”

That was back in March 2024.

A week later, during a video call, a few key things became clear:

  • They were already handling straw with ~30% moisture
  • Wood waste came from nearby small mills, not standardized
  • Storage conditions were not ideal (open or semi-covered)
  • They had a limited workforce and didn’t want a complicated system

They weren’t chasing maximum capacity. They wanted something that runs every day without trouble.

Contract was signed in July 2024, after about 4 months of back-and-forth on layout and drying system design.

In Ukraine, especially in agricultural regions, straw availability is not the issue. The challenge is moisture and seasonality.

This straw wood pellet plant construction project uses a mix of straw and wood waste, and we had to design around that.

Raw Material Table

MaterialAnnual Consumption (t)MoistureSource
Straw5,858.571~30%Local farms
Waste Wood20,000VariableSmall sawmills

A small note from commissioning phase:
The first few batches had uneven drying because straw moisture varied more than expected. We had to adjust airflow and feeding rhythm slightly.

ItemAnnual Consumption
Electricity1,000,000 kWh
Water260.4 m³
Biomass Fuel (self-use)630 tons

The drying system uses part of the produced pellets as fuel, which keeps operating costs relatively low.

We avoided unnecessary complexity. The client made it clear: fewer machines, easier maintenance.

Instead of forcing a complicated design, we adapted to the existing building.

  • Crushing & grinding placed on one side to isolate dust
  • Drying positioned to allow smooth airflow and exhaust routing
  • Pelletizing placed centrally for easy supervision
  • Finished goods near exit for fast loading

Also, vehicle and personnel paths were separated, which sounds minor, but improves daily operation significantly.

Here’s how the 7t/h waste wood & straw pellet production line in Ukraine runs in real operation:

  1. Raw Material Storage
Stored in enclosed warehouses to reduce dust and moisture fluctuation.
  2. Crushing & Grinding
    • Large material reduced in size
    • Final particle size: <14 mm
    • Dust collected and recycled
  3. Drying
    • Initial moisture: ~30%
    • Final moisture: 8–10%
    • Temperature zones:
      • Front: ~300°C
      • Middle: ~100°C
      • End: ~70°C
    • Retention time: ~20 minutes
  4. Pelletizing
    • No binders used
    • Lignin softening under pressure forms pellets naturally
  5. Cooling (Natural)
    • No cooler installed
    • Ambient cooling used to reduce cost
  6. Packaging & Storage

We simplified the straw wood pellet production line while still meeting practical environmental expectations:

  • Dust → bag filters + cyclone system
  • Exhaust → 15m & 20m chimneys
  • Wastewater → minimal, mainly domestic
  • Solid waste → reused or given to local farms

Dust collected from filters is directly reused in production. Nothing wasted.

ItemCost (USD)
Equipment Cost$385,000
Total Project Estimate~$520,000

We intentionally kept the investment moderate. This is not a high-risk project.

Departure Port: Qingdao Port (China) Destination Port: Odesa Port, Ukraine

The client operates a mid-sized agricultural and wood processing business.

Their situation before the project:

  • Straw often burned or left unused
  • Wood waste sold cheaply or discarded
  • Rising local demand for pellet fuel

They weren’t entering a new industry—they were upgrading existing resources into a higher-value product.

  • Moisture control is everything. If drying is unstable, pellet quality drops immediately.
  • Operators needed about a week to get used to feeding rhythm.
  • Once stabilized, the line runs very consistently.

Nothing fancy, just solid engineering.

Biomass pellets are not a “future market” here—they are already in use.

Key drivers:

  • Rising energy costs
  • Strong agricultural base
  • Availability of low-cost raw materials

For many businesses, a 7t/h waste wood & straw pellet production line in Ukraine is not a gamble—it’s a logical extension of what they already have.

This biomass pellet project was not just equipment supply.

We supported:

  • Process design
  • Layout planning
  • Equipment manufacturing
  • Installation guidance
  • Commissioning
  • Operator training

And we still provide spare parts support.

Not every project needs to be large or complex to work.

This 7t/h waste wood & straw pellet production line in Ukraine is a good example of something that fits the local situation:

  • Raw materials are available
  • Investment is reasonable
  • Operation is manageable

If you’re sitting on similar raw materials and wondering whether pelletizing makes sense, the first step is simple:

Check your moisture, check your volume, and see what kind of line actually fits your reality—not someone else’s brochure.
