Tofu cat litter is made of natural plant fibers and has the advantages of strong water absorption, good deodorization ability, no dust, and flushable toilets. It is especially popular among the middle class and young pet owners.

Despite the strong market demand, the Philippines has not yet formed a mature tofu cat litter manufacturing system. Most products rely on imports from China, Malaysia and other countries, with high prices, long logistics cycles, and unstable supply.

Therefore, a local pet product company from Manila decided to invest in a 1-2 ton/hour tofu cat litter production line to create the first professional and large-scale tofu cat litter production facility in the local area to fill the market gap.

The tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project uses fiber, starch, corn, guar gum, and flavors as raw materials, and carries out processes such as feeding, mixing, granulation, drying, screening, and packaging, and processes 5,000 tons of pet cat litter annually.

The project has a labor quota of 10 people, and implements a one-shift work system, with each shift working 8 hours, and an annual production day of 350 days.

Construction content

The tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project covers an area of 4,500 square meters, and the total construction area of the renovated factory building is 3,600 square meters, of which the workshop area is 1,300 square meters, the raw material area is 1,000 square meters, the finished product area is 1,200 square meters, and the office area is 100 square meters.

The project purchased 15 sets of equipment (3 production lines) including granulators, dryers, packaging equipment, and screening machines.

The west side of the cat litter production line project is the workshop area and office area, and the east side is the raw material area and finished product area. The production lines in the workshop area are reasonably arranged according to the process flow, and the layout is reasonable from the perspective of convenient production, safety management, and environmental protection. Process design of tofu cat litter production line in the Philippines

Brief description of the process flow:

1. Loading

The raw materials of this project include fiber, starch, corn, guar gum, etc. These purchased raw materials are all bagged and stored in the warehouse after being transported by truck. A small amount of dust will be generated during the manual handling of raw materials. When in use, the packaging bags are manually opened and the fiber, starch, corn, and guar gum are put into the mixer according to the corresponding proportion.

2. Mixing

This process is mainly to fully mix the raw materials, and the granulator is a closed equipment. The raw materials contain the main ingredients of flavors and guar gum. Among them, guar gum is easily soluble in water.

In order to make guar gum have a higher degree of adhesion during the mixing process, water needs to be added before mixing for mixing. During the mixing process, the fiber, starch, and corn can be bonded quickly to form a mass. The semi-finished products produced by the mixing process are transported to the granulation process via a closed conveyor belt.

3. Granulation

This tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project adopts dry granulation. The semi-finished products produced in the mixing process are transported to the granulator via a closed conveyor belt. The cat litter pellet machine is fully closed during operation. The equipment does not need to be opened when it is operating normally. The semi-finished products produced in this process are transported to the drying process via a closed conveyor belt.

4. Drying

Since the raw materials themselves contain a certain amount of moisture, it is necessary to dry the semi-finished cat litter particles produced in the granulation process. The moisture content of cat litter particles before drying is about 13~15%, and the moisture content of semi-finished cat litter is about 7%~10%, and it is in the shape of long strips. In order to meet the product quality requirements, the product needs to be directly dried.

The drying heat source of this tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project uses liquefied petroleum gas. The semi-finished cat litter particles are transported to the closed mesh belt dryer for drying by a closed conveyor belt. The drying temperature is between 80℃~90℃, and it takes about 10~15min for the cat litter product to dry. After drying, the semi-finished cat litter is naturally cooled and then conveyed to the screening machine by a closed conveyor belt.

5. Screening

The screening machine is a closed structure. After the cat litter enters the screening machine, it is divided into qualified products and unqualified products according to its own shape. During the screening process, the operation is carried out in the closed screening machine. The dust generated naturally settles and is collected as a granulation raw material for granulation without being discharged.

6. Packaging

The finished cat litter processed by this project has a water content of 7%-10% and is in the shape of long strips. Therefore, there is basically no waste gas generated during the cat litter packaging process; qualified products are packaged by a packaging machine for shipment.

(1) Water supply

Guar gum is used in the production process of this tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project. When this material is used, a small amount of production water needs to be added to maintain the product molding characteristics.

The water consumption of this part is about 10m3/a. The labor quota is 10 people, no food and accommodation are provided, and the annual working days are 350 days. The per capita living water consumption is calculated as 40L/d per person, so the living water consumption is 0.4m³/d, 140m³/a.

(2) Drainage

This project adopts a rainwater and sewage diversion drainage system. After the rainwater is collected, it is discharged outside the factory according to the terrain. All production water enters the product and is not discharged.

The domestic sewage generation coefficient of this project is calculated as 0.8, so the domestic sewage generation is 0.32m3/d, 112m3/a. Domestic sewage is discharged into the septic tank. After pre-treatment in the septic tank, it is regularly cleaned and transported to the surrounding farmland for composting. It is not discharged. Therefore, this project has no external wastewater.

(3) Power supply

The power supply of this tofu cat litter production plant in the Philippines project is drawn from the local power supply station, and the power supply is sufficient to meet the needs of project construction and production. The power equipment of this project mainly includes machinery and lighting equipment, with a power consumption of 819,800 kWh.

(4) Fire prevention, explosion prevention and earthquake resistance design

This project takes into account the prevention of fire and safe evacuation in the building fire protection design.

Fire prevention: All buildings adopt the first and second level fire resistance grades, and the interior decoration adopts non-combustible or flame-retardant materials to make fire less likely to occur, and even if it occurs, it is not easy to spread rapidly. At the same time, fire hydrants are installed in the buildings. The fire partition area meets the requirements of the building design fire protection code.

Evacuation: The floor plan of the building meets the requirements of fire prevention and evacuation, which is convenient for personnel evacuation.
