This is a 4t/h cat litter pellet production line in UAE project. The client is a pet supplies company from the UAE. It was established in 2020 and its business scope is general projects: production and sales of cat litter, pet supplies, and pet food; pet grooming, foster care, and import and export of goods and technology.

Since the client’s original cat litter production line has an output of 500 kg per hour, and uses a flat die cat litter granulator, which is only equipped with a crusher and a packaging scale, the quality of the cat litter granules processed in the original project is very poor.

Based on the prospects of the tofu cat litter business, the client of this project intends to expand the production line, renovate the factory building, and build a new project in the existing factory building to process 20,000 tons of tofu cat litter per year in order to meet market demand, using some existing engineering production equipment and purchasing some new production equipment and environmental protection equipment from RICHI.

The types of raw and auxiliary materials and production processes of this cat litter pellet production line in UAE project are consistent with the original project. The annual processing time is increased from 2400h to 4800h, and the construction scale is changed to 20,000 tons of tofu cat litter per year. At present, the labor quota of this project is 5 people, the working system is two shifts, each shift works 8 hours, and the annual working days are 300 days.

The product of this project is tofu cat litter. Cat litter is an object used by cat owners to bury feces and urine. It has good water absorption and is generally used together with a cat litter box (or cat toilet). Pour an appropriate amount of cat litter into the cat litter box. When trained cats need to defecate, they will walk into the cat litter box and defecate on it.

According to the different ingredients of cat litter production, it can be divided into silica gel cat litter, crystal cat litter, wood chip cat litter, paper scrap cat litter, condensed cat litter, tofu cat litter, bentonite cat litter, etc.

Main raw and auxiliary materials

The main raw and auxiliary materials consumption of this cat litter pellet production line in UAE project is shown in the table below. The soybean dregs for this project are imported from China, and the customer has signed a long-term soybean dregs purchase agreement with a Chinese soybean processing plant.

Main material properties:

Guar gum: also known as guar gum, is an extract of guar beans, a legume plant. It is a galactomannan and is generally used as a food thickener. Guar gum generally contains 75-85% polysaccharides, 8-14% water, 5-6% crude protein, 2-3% crude fiber and 0.5-1% ash. It is a free-flowing powder from white to slightly yellow. It can be dissolved in cold or hot water. When it comes into contact with water, it forms a gelatinous substance to achieve the effect of rapid thickening. Its main purpose is to help product molding. It is the most effective and water-soluble natural polymer known so far.

In addition, according to the customer’s later feedback, it plans to add date fiber, a specialty of the UAE, to the cat litter formula to improve clumping.

According to customer needs, the process flow we designed for this cat litter pellet production line in UAE project is as follows:

(1) Raw material loading

The raw materials of this cat litter production line in UAE project include tofu fiber, starch, corn, and guar gum, all of which are purchased from outside, transported by truck and stored in the raw material area.

When in use, the tofu fiber, starch, corn, and guar gum packaging bags are manually opened and put into the hopper of the feeding unit according to the corresponding proportion. It is lifted by the bucket elevator to the mixing and stirring process.

(2) Mixing and stirring

The raw materials are sent to the closed mixer through the bucket elevator of the feeding unit, and the raw materials are fully mixed and stirred in the mixer after adding water.

(3) Granulation

After mixing, the semi-finished product is sent to the closed cat litter granulator through a closed pipe, and the ring die cat litter granulation process is used to extrude the raw materials into cylindrical cat litter particles with a diameter of 2-4mm and a length of 2cm.

(4) Screening

The semi-finished products produced in the granulation process are transported to the vibrating machine for screening via a conveyor belt.

Qualified products are retained on the upper layer of the screen, and unqualified products are screened through the lower layer of the screen and collected from the bottom outlet and returned to the mixing process for reuse. Since the granules after granulation are soft and hydrated with a length of 2 cm, the moisture content is high and no floating dust is generated, so the screening process does not generate dust.

(5) Drying

Since the granules after granulation contain a certain amount of moisture (about 15%~20%), in order to meet the product quality requirements, the semi-finished tofu cat litter particles after screening need to be directly dried.

The dried tofu cat litter is in the shape of long strips with a moisture content of about 7%~10%. The drying of this project is carried out in a closed mesh belt dryer, the heat source is liquefied petroleum gas, the drying temperature is 80℃~90℃, and the drying time is about 10~15min.

(5) Cooling

The semi-finished tofu cat litter particles after drying are naturally cooled and then conveyed to the packaging machine via a closed conveyor belt.

(6) Packaging

The finished cat litter is screened and packaged by the packaging machine’s built-in screening machine and stored for sale. The water content of the finished cat litter is 7%~10% and it is in the shape of long strips. The cat litter pellet production line in UAE project uses moisture-proof aluminum film bags, which can adapt to the high temperature storage environment.

The production plant of this cat litter pellet production line in UAE project is divided into production area, raw material warehouse, packaging area and finished product warehouse from east to west according to functional areas; the production area is based on the process flow, and each production process is arranged according to the production process, shortening the pipeline distance of process materials.

The functional divisions of each area in the plant are clear, the process flow is compact and reasonable, and meets the requirements of environmental protection, fire protection, safety and hygiene.

(2) Drainage

① The domestic sewage generation coefficient is calculated as 80%. The domestic sewage generation of this project is 48m³/a (0.16m³/d). The domestic sewage is discharged into the sewage network after being treated in the septic tank.

② 70% of the mixing water is lost in the drying process by evaporation, and 30% enters the product. There is no production wastewater discharge. In summary, the wastewater discharge of this project is 48m³/a (0.16m³/d).

(3) Power supply

The annual electricity consumption of this project is 300,000 kW·h. The electricity is drawn from the local power supply network. The power supply is sufficient to meet the needs of project construction and production.
