This is a 2t/h straw pellet production line in Mexico project.

Mexico is one of the world’s major agricultural countries, with a wide planting area of crops such as corn, wheat, sorghum, and sugarcane, producing tens of millions of tons of crop straw every year. Due to the lack of an effective resource utilization system, some straw is burned in the open air, causing air pollution and carbon emissions, and wasting a large amount of potential renewable energy resources.

With the green transformation of the global energy structure and the continuous promotion of the Mexican government’s clean energy policy, the biomass energy industry has gradually gained attention locally.

In particular, straw pellet fuel, as a green, low-carbon, and efficient form of renewable energy, can be widely used in industrial boilers, heating systems, and clean power generation projects, which not only helps to reduce dependence on traditional fossil energy, but also effectively solves the problem of agricultural waste treatment.

Against this background, an agricultural product processing company in Jalisco, Mexico decided to build a 2 t/h, 10,000 t/a straw pellet plant to promote the high-value utilization of agricultural and forestry waste, create a green circular economy model, and further expand the renewable energy market.

Based on the customer’s raw materials and plant structure, RICHI engineers designed the straw pellet processing process flow for the customer as follows:

(1) Raw straw:

Biomass raw materials are temporarily stored in the yard.

(2) Crushing and screening:

Since crop straw and other materials are large in size and cannot be directly used for molding, the main task of the crushing process is to use a crusher to crush the larger straw into short and fine granular raw materials.

(3) Biomass pellet machine molding

The raw materials are extruded into shape by a biomass straw pellet machine. The crushed materials are fed into the biomass pellet machine. In the biomass pellet machine, the crushed materials are heated.

The heat source comes from the heat generated by the friction between the mold and the material and the heat generated by the friction between the materials due to the reduction in volume under pressure.

Under the action of a certain temperature and huge pressure, the lignin in the crushed materials melts into “binder”, and the raw materials are pressed and glued into a solid object, which is extruded and formed from the ring die hole of the pellet machine and extruded into the product of this project – solidified fuel.

The cylindrical solidified fuel is continuously extruded from the pellet machine and cut into the required length by the cutter according to market demand. The cut solidified fuel is conveyed to the packaging section. During the transportation process, the solidified fuel is naturally cooled.

(4) Packaged finished product:

The solidified fuel that is cooled during the transportation process is measured, packaged, and sealed in turn before being stored in the warehouse.

1. Water supply

The water used in this straw pellet production line in Mexico project is mainly for the living water of the staff. There are 10 employees in the project, and the living water consumption is calculated as 60L/d·person, and the water consumption is 180t/a.

The domestic sewage generated is calculated as 85% of the water consumption, so the domestic sewage generation is 0.51t/d, 153t/a. A new well is built in the factory, with a depth of 60 meters and a water output capacity of 20m³/h, which can meet the water demand of this project.

2. Drainage

This project has no production wastewater discharge. The wastewater of the project is mainly domestic sewage. The sewage discharge is calculated as 85% of the water consumption, and the sewage generation is 0.51t/d, 153t/a. The domestic sewage is discharged into the anti-seepage dry toilet, and it is regularly cleaned and used as farmyard manure.

3. Power supply

The power supply of this straw pellet production line in Mexico project is provided by the local power grid, which can meet the power demand of this project.

Local materials, significant resource advantages

The client has multiple corn and wheat planting bases and can obtain more than 20,000 tons of straw raw materials each year. In the past, it was mostly used for composting or incineration, which was a serious waste of resources. Straw pelletization can convert waste resources into clean energy and increase added value.

Rising energy costs force companies to find alternative energy sources

The price of industrial electricity in Mexico continues to rise, and fuel costs fluctuate frequently, which puts companies under great pressure to operate. Straw pellets can be used for heating in their own boilers or sold to surrounding companies to help reduce energy expenditures and enhance risk resistance.

Create a model of agricultural circular economy and enhance corporate competitiveness

The customer hopes to upgrade and transform from traditional agriculture to green agriculture. By building a straw pellet production line, a closed-loop ecological chain of “planting-processing-energy recovery” is constructed to enhance the company’s status and influence in the local agricultural industry.

The Mexican government is implementing the “Energy Transition Act” (Ley de Transición Energética) to encourage the development of non-fossil energy projects. Customer projects are in line with the national strategic direction and can enjoy policy support such as loans and taxes.
