Project Origin
Biomass energy is the use of biomass to produce energy. At present, biomass used as energy mainly refers to waste such as crop straw, forestry and wood processing. Biomass can be converted into efficient solid, liquid and gaseous fuels to replace non-renewable energy sources such as coal, oil and natural gas.
Biomass energy is an important renewable energy source. Increasing the development and utilization of biomass energy is of great significance to improving energy utilization and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Protecting the ecological environment is of great significance.
Comprehensively utilizing solid waste such as discarded straw and sawdust to produce biomass fuels, turning waste into treasure, reducing resource waste, promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, and reducing environmental pollution, has obvious social and environmental benefits.
Based on the application prospects of biomass pellets, the client of this project, a timber company, invested 170,000 USD to add a biomass pellet production line with an annual output of 5,000 tons in the existing factory in order to expand its business.
The raw materials of this turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico project are sawdust, wood, straw, etc. The production process is crushing, screening, drying, granulation and other processes, with a total area of about 480m2. There are 6 employees in this project, with an annual working time of 300 days and an 8-hour working system.

Process design of 2 t/h turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico
Based on the customer’s raw materials, process requirements and plant conditions, RICHI engineers designed the pellet processing process for the customer as follows:
The raw materials of this project are wood chips, wood, straw, etc., which are transported by car to the raw material storage area and manually sent to the crusher for primary crushing, and then sent to the secondary crushing by a closed belt conveyor belt.
After entering the biomass dryer for drying, after the pelletizing process with biomass pellet mill machine, it is transported to the packaging area by a closed belt conveyor belt, and then stored in the product stacking area after packaging, and finally shipped by car for sale.

How to build a turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico?
The specific steps to build a biomass pellet plant in Mexico are as follows:
Site selection and investigation:
Site selection is the first step in investing and building a turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico, and it is necessary to comprehensively evaluate multiple factors such as location, supporting facilities, cost, and policy.
Northern border cities border the United States and are manufacturing centers for electronics, aerospace, and automotive industries; Monterrey is an industrial center with diversified manufacturing industries; Mexico City’s surrounding areas cover pharmaceuticals, food processing, textiles and other fields. If you already have a factory and the location is suitable, you don’t need to consider this issue.
Company registration:
If you are an investor, you need to register a company locally when you first enter the biomass pellet processing industry. Common types include joint stock companies and limited liability companies. There is no minimum limit for registered capital, but it needs to be reasonably determined based on the actual scale of operation. The registration process generally takes 4-8 weeks, and the costs involved include lawyer fees, notarization fees, government fees, etc., about 20,000 to 50,000 US dollars.
Factory construction:
After obtaining a business license, you can start turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico construction. You can choose to purchase land and build it yourself or rent a ready-made factory. The self-built factory has a long cycle and large initial investment; although the choice of rented factories is small, it can be put into production quickly and the initial cost is low.
Taking the self-built 10,000 square meters factory as an example, the construction cost in Mexico is about 300-500 US dollars/square meter, the land purchase fee is about 50-100 US dollars/square meter, and the total investment is about 5-8 million US dollars. If you choose to rent a factory of the same area, the monthly rent is about 5,000-8,000 US dollars.
Equipment procurement and installation:
After the biomass pellet making plant is built, various types of equipment need to be purchased and installed according to the biomass pellet manufacturing process requirements.
The main equipment can be purchased domestically and shipped to Mexico. The cycle and cost of equipment procurement, transportation, installation, and commissioning vary depending on the scale of the enterprise and the type of equipment. On average, the equipment investment accounts for about 50-60% of the total project investment.
Staff recruitment and training:
The labor cost in Mexico is relatively low, and the hourly wage of skilled workers is about US$8.16. The personnel cost varies depending on the scale of the enterprise, the region, and other factors. On average, the labor cost accounts for about 20-30% of the total operating cost.
Production operation:
During the production operation process, it is necessary to apply for relevant licenses and comply with local environmental regulations. For example, it is necessary to apply for a single environmental license, which is issued by the government to fixed source enterprises that emit potential pollutants. A detailed environmental impact assessment report is required when applying.

What issues should be paid attention to when building a turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico?
When building a turnkey biomass pellet line in Mexico, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as construction, transportation, supply chain, labor, life, policy, and radiation area. Since there are many factors to pay attention to, the following will only explain the factory building construction of the biomass pelletizing plant.
Foundation load-bearing, factory building materials and comprehensive costs
- The impact of soil on the foundation: The soil in the northern desert area of Mexico is relatively soft, and the corresponding foundation thickness and strength requirements are much higher than other areas, resulting in high foundation construction costs. Some heavy and large manufacturing industries, especially those that require yards, need to pay special attention to the foundation load-bearing requirements;
- High temperature problem in the north: Mexico has a large north-south span, and the northern border belongs to the desert and Gobi area. The highest temperature in summer is close to 50 degrees, and it lasts for a long time. It is recommended to choose insulation materials for factory construction. It is best to use concrete structure for the wall, and other materials can be used for the roof, but they all need to be insulated;
- Construction raw material production area: The eastern and northeastern regions of Mexico have abundant production of raw materials such as stone, cement, and steel bars, and the transportation and procurement costs are much lower than those in the northern border areas.
- The Rocky Mountains almost run through the western part of Mexico, and the overall trend is high in the west and low in the east, resulting in different water, electricity, transportation, and construction methods in the east and west. Enterprises need to comprehensively consider factors such as construction, transportation, supply chain, labor, life, policies, and radiation areas when building factories.
Try to rent or build steel structure factories
Steel structure biomass pellet factories are very popular in Mexico. Why are they as follows?
- Construction period: relatively few modules, short construction period, and low construction cost;
- Large load: The bearing capacity of metal roof panels is related to the characteristics of the panel section, the strength and thickness of the material, the way of force transmission, and the spacing of the purlins. Steel structure factories are conducive to construction, rain, dust, snow pressure, and maintenance loads;
- Lighting: The building area of steel structure factories is generally large. Natural light panels are placed in specific locations on the metal roof to improve indoor lighting and save energy;
- Fire prevention: When a fire occurs in a steel structure factory, the metal roof material will not burn, and the flame will not penetrate the metal roof panel.
