Multifunctional Integrated Wood Pellet Plant In Colombia

Multifunctional Integrated Wood Pellet Plant In Colombia

It is also based on the advantages of Colombia’s wood pellet processing business that the project customer invested US$280,000 in November 2023 to build this 6,000-ton biomass pellet fuel project. There are 4 staff members in this project, using one shift, 8 hours per shift, and 200 days of production per year.

The reason why this production line is called “multifunctional” is mainly because it is suitable for processing a variety of raw materials, and it can not only process wood pellets, but also can be used to process wood chips and sawdust, shavings and other products.

Biomass fuel is generally a new type of clean fuel that can be directly burned after being made from agricultural and forestry waste as raw materials through processes such as crushing, mixing, and extrusion. Its diameter is generally 3-9mm, and its length is 4 to 5 times its diameter.

The crushing rate is less than 1.5% to 2.0%, the dry basis moisture content is less than 10 to 15%, the ash content is less than 1.5%, the sulfur content and chlorine content are both less than 0.07%, and the nitrogen content is less than 0.5%. This project produces about 6,000 tons of biomass wood pellet fuel annually.

The product plan of this multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia project is shown in the table below.

Based on the location advantages of this multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia project, the raw materials for producing biomass pellet fuel are mainly wood scraps and sawdust ash and other organic matter containing wood fiber collected from wood processing plants in nearby towns. According to the information provided by the construction unit, the raw materials required for this project shall not contain metal parts and other waste resources.

The main raw and auxiliary material consumption of this wood pellet factory project is detailed in the table below.

No.NameAnnual ConsumptionRemarks
1Wood scraps5505t/aPurchased from outside, moisture content less than 15%
2Sawdust ash500t/aStored in raw material warehouse
3Water112m3/aLocal water supply system
4Electricity400kw·h/aSupplied by local power grid

Water supply

Water supply: supplied by the municipal water supply network.

The fixed number of employees for this multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia project is 4. The employees are nearby residents and do not eat or stay in the factory area. The daily water consumption is set at 140L/person·d, so the daily water consumption is 0.56m3/d (112m3/a) (the annual working days are 200 days).

Drainage

The drainage in the project area adopts the rainwater and sewage diversion method. A rainwater outlet is set up on the side of the factory road. The rainwater is discharged into the surrounding ponds or canals nearby using the natural terrain.

The domestic sewage discharge of the project employees is calculated as 85% of the water consumption, which is 95.2m3/a. The domestic sewage is treated in a septic tank and used for greening the factory area.

Power supply system

The power supply for the project is supplied by the town power grid.

The multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia project is entered from the west entrance. The south side is the township road, which runs east-west. The north side of the township road is the project production workshop, and the south side is the raw material yard.

The production workshop on the west side is arranged as a crushing area and a drying area in sequence, and the south side is set as a molding area and a finished product warehouse. The general layout of the production workshop is basically based on the requirements of the production process and operation.

The material flow is smooth and meets the relevant regulations on fire prevention, safety, and hygiene. The overall layout has clear functional divisions, which facilitates the continuity of production. The general layout of this project is basically reasonable.

The prospects for building a wood pellet production line in Colombia are generally optimistic. The following is an analysis of key factors:

Advantages of building a multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia:

  • Rich forest resources: Colombia has a high forest coverage rate and rich wood resources, which provide sufficient raw materials for the production line.
  • Excellent climatic conditions: The suitable climate is conducive to the planting of fast-growing forests, ensuring a sustainable supply of raw materials.
  • Convenient geographical location: Close to major export markets (such as Europe), reducing transportation costs.
  • Government support: The Colombian government encourages the development of renewable energy and may provide policy support such as tax incentives.
  • Growing market demand: Global demand for biomass energy continues to rise, and wood pellets, as a clean energy, have broad market prospects.

Challenges of building a wood pellet production line in Colombia:

  • Inadequate infrastructure: Incomplete transportation and power facilities in some areas may increase construction and operating costs.
  • Strict environmental regulations: Colombia has strict regulations on deforestation, and it is necessary to ensure that the source of wood is legal and sustainable.
  • Intense market competition: The global wood pellet market is highly competitive, and it is necessary to remain competitive in price and quality.
  • Social and environmental risks: The multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia project may face risks such as land disputes and community opposition, which need to be properly handled.

Other considerations:

  • Type of raw materials: It is necessary to select appropriate raw materials such as wood chips or sawdust according to market demand.
  • Production technology: It is crucial to select efficient and environmentally friendly production technology.
  • Market positioning: Identify the target market (such as Europe or Asia) and develop corresponding marketing strategies.

Colombia has good resource, climate and market conditions for building wood pellet production lines, but challenges such as infrastructure, regulations and competition need to be addressed. Through reasonable planning and risk management, the project is expected to succeed.

Here are RICHI’s suggestions for building multifunctional integrated wood pellet plant in Colombia:

  • Conduct detailed market and feasibility studies.
  • Select reliable raw material suppliers.
  • Use advanced production technology.
  • Develop an effective marketing strategy.
  • Maintain good communication with the government and the community.

Overall, the wood pellet production line in Colombia has great potential, but it needs to be carefully planned and executed.
