Animal Feed Processing Plant in Vietnam

Poultry feed mill project

In response to Vietnam’s rapidly expanding livestock industry, particularly in the northern provinces where pig farming is a dominant agricultural sector, a new animal feed processing plant in Vietnam has been proposed with a designed annual production of 300,000 tons of high-quality pig feed. The facility is strategically located in Thai Binh Province, a region with abundant access to corn, wheat, soybean meal, and other feed ingredients necessary for large-scale feed production.

The plant occupies a total site area of 40,000 m² and a built-up area of 15,844 m², providing sufficient space for production halls, raw material storage, administrative offices, and logistics operations. The total estimated investment is $2.5 million USD, financed entirely through the client’s own capital. Once operational, this animal feed processing plant in Vietnam will ensure a stable, year-round supply of high-quality pig feed, helping regional pig farmers enhance growth performance and optimize feed conversion ratios.

The animal feed production line is designed for computer-controlled automated operations, integrating raw material handling, grinding, extrusion, formulation, pelletizing, cooling, and packaging. The final output includes:

  • High-quality pig feed pellets with optimized nutritional profiles
  • Capacity: 300,000 tons/year
  • Main raw materials: corn, wheat, soybean meal, and premixes
  • Application: feeding pigs at various growth stages across multiple commercial farms in Northern Vietnam

Vietnam’s livestock sector is undergoing modernization to meet growing domestic pork demand. In the Red River Delta region, pig farming is both a family and commercial activity, but local farmers often struggle with feed supply quality and consistency. To address these challenges, the client—a regional livestock operator with multiple pig farms under management—proposed establishing a centralized animal feed processing plant in Vietnam to ensure high-quality, consistent feed supply across all farms.

The motivation for the animal feed factory project includes:

  1. Securing feed supply: The plant will eliminate dependence on small-scale feed suppliers, ensuring timely and nutritionally consistent feed for all farms.
  2. Efficiency and cost reduction: Centralized feed production reduces transportation costs, spoilage, and variability in nutritional content.
  3. Sustainability: By incorporating locally available feed ingredients, including corn, wheat, and soybean meal, the plant reduces reliance on imported feed components.

This animal feed processing plant in Vietnam project is designed as a high-capacity facility, producing 300,000 tons/year of pig feed with a production line fully adapted to Vietnamese raw material characteristics, seasonal availability, and farm demand. The facility will serve multiple commercial pig farms and provide ancillary feed to smaller neighboring farms.

The animal feed pellet plant layout has been carefully designed to accommodate operational efficiency and future expansion:

The layout of this animal pig feed mill ensures smooth material flow, minimizes cross-contamination, and supports automated operations for maximum efficiency.

The animal feed processing plant in Vietnam adheres to local environmental regulations. Key measures include:

  • Exhaust and air emissions: Kitchen exhaust treated with high-efficiency oil scrubbers; all organized dust from raw material handling captured by bag filters connected to 15 m high exhaust stacks (21 units). Boiler exhaust released via an 8 m stack.
  • Noise control: Equipment installed with soundproofing, vibration reduction, and acoustic barriers.
  • Wastewater: No industrial wastewater generated. Domestic wastewater and kitchen wastewater treated via grease traps and then discharged into the municipal sewage system for further treatment.
  • Solid waste management: Kitchen waste collected separately; dust from cleaning and milling collected and recycled into feed production; defective or substandard feed returned to production.

The animal feed mill plant ensures sustainable operations, reducing environmental impact while maintaining a high level of hygiene and safety.

Vietnam’s Red River Delta region provides abundant agricultural by-products suitable for feed production. The animal feed processing plant in Vietnam primarily uses:

  • Corn and wheat from local farms
  • Soybean meal from nearby oil extraction plants
  • Premixes, vitamins, and trace minerals from regional suppliers

The diversity and availability of these raw materials allow year-round production and high flexibility in feed formulation.

Soybean Meal80,00010–12%Local processing plants

The raw material sourcing strategy balances cost, availability, and nutritional optimization for the feed produced.

The animal feed processing plant in Vietnam adopts a fully automated process to produce high-quality pig feed:

  1. Raw Material Receiving & Cleaning: Corn, wheat, and soybean meal are unloaded, cleaned via sieves, magnetic separators, and pre-cleaning screens.
  2. Grinding: Materials are ground in AHZC06120 hammer mills (two 200 kW units, one 160 kW), ensuring particle size uniformity for better pellet quality.
  3. Extrusion/Conditioning: Materials are pre-conditioned with steam to improve starch gelatinization, nutrient digestibility, and partial pathogen elimination.
  4. Mixing: Ground materials mixed with premixes and additives via computer-controlled systems for consistent nutrition.
  5. Pelletizing & Cooling: Mixed feed passed through pellet mills; pellets cooled to reduce moisture (~13%) and maintain shape.
  6. Packaging & Storage: Pellets stored in carbon steel silos and packaged via automated bagging systems or bulk loading units.

Production capacity: 60 t/h across four parallel feed pellet production lines, each with 15 t/h capacity.

The design of this animal feed processing plant in Vietnam ensures operational efficiency, low downtime, and high automation, enabling consistent feed quality at large-scale production.

Vietnam’s pig farming sector is growing rapidly, with demand for high-quality feed increasing steadily. Establishing an animal feed processing plant in Vietnam ensures:

  • Stable, cost-effective feed for multiple commercial pig farms
  • Reduced reliance on fragmented local feed suppliers
  • Improved pig growth performance, reduced disease risk, and higher productivity

The pig feed processing plant also has potential for regional expansion, supplying feed to neighboring provinces in Northern Vietnam. With increasing consumer demand for pork and government incentives for modern feed production, this project is highly attractive to investors seeking long-term returns.
