RICHI Machinery has commissioned a 6 T/H sheep feed mill in New Zealand’s South Island, producing specialized supplements for the country’s extensive pastoral systems. The facility manufactures nutrient-dense pellets utilizing locally available by-products including grape marc, apple pomace, and lucerne hay.
The production system features RICHI’s flexible processing technology allowing rapid formulation changes to address seasonal nutritional gaps. A unique pellet structure provides both rumen-bypass protein and slow-release energy, complementing pasture-based systems without disrupting rumen function.
The mill operates primarily during autumn and spring when pasture quality declines, utilizing modular storage systems that preserve feed quality for up to 18 months. Participating farmers report improved lambing percentages and wool quality while maintaining the environmental benefits of pastoral farming, demonstrating how targeted supplementary feeding enhances sustainable production systems.
