RICHI MACHINERY
overview
According to the Spanish National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers, the turnover of the Spanish pet food market in 2024 is 1.71 billion euros (about 1.85 billion US dollars), an increase of 14.4% over 2023. The sales of dog food and cat food reached 1.03 billion euros and 676 million euros respectively, showing strong market demand. In addition, the export of Spanish pet food accounts for more than 30% of the global pet nutrition industry market value, further proving its competitiveness in the international market.
Against this background, the project client, a food company, decided to invest 4.5 million US dollars in the construction of a pet food production line project (equipment investment is 1.04 million US dollars). The project uses 17,589 square meters of existing land to build factories, office buildings and other buildings with a total construction area of 20,321.72 square meters.
The dog food factory in Spain project uses corn, wheat, meat and bone meal, soybean meal and other raw materials, and purchases pet food extruder machine, pet food dryer, bucket elevators, hammer mills and other equipment through feeding, crushing, mixing, extrusion, drying, spraying, cooling and other technologies or processes. After the project is completed, it will form an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of pet feed.
The labor quota of this project is 42 people, with a two-shift system, 8 hours of production per shift, and 300 working days per year. The factory is equipped with a canteen, but no staff dormitory.

What is the prospect of building a pet dog food factory in Spain?
The prospect of building a pet dog food factory in Spain is relatively optimistic, mainly due to the following factors:
First. the market size continues to expand.
According to the Spanish National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers, the Spanish pet food market will have a turnover of 1.71 billion euros (about 1.85 billion US dollars) in 2024, an increase of 14.4% from 2023.
Sales of dog food and cat food reached 1.03 billion euros and 676 million euros respectively, showing strong market demand. In addition, the export of Spanish pet food accounts for more than 30% of the global pet nutrition industry market value, further proving its competitiveness in the international market.
Second. consumers’ demand for high-quality, natural and healthy products has increased.
More and more consumers tend to choose high-quality, natural and additive-free pet food to ensure the health and well-being of their pets. This trend has driven the growth of high-quality and natural pet food in the market. In addition, customized foods for specific pet groups have also appeared on the market, such as special foods for small dogs and special foods for elderly cats, meeting consumers’ diversified needs for pet food.
Third. diversification of sales channels.
Specialty stores and e-commerce channels have played a key role in the growth of the Spanish pet food market. These channels not only provide a rich selection of products, but also provide consumers with a convenient shopping experience. With the continuous expansion of online sales channels, it is expected that the proportion of online sales will reach 41.72% by 2029.
Fourth. policy and regulatory environment
As a member of the European Union, pet feed mill and pet food production in Spain needs to meet the strict standards of the European Union, which provides regulatory guarantees for the production of high-quality pet feed. The European Union has high requirements for environmental protection, and pet feed factories need to focus on sustainable production and environmental protection measures.
In addition, agricultural and food industry support policies: The Spanish government provides a variety of support policies for the agricultural and food industries, including subsidies, tax incentives and technical support, which may benefit the pet feed industry.
Fifth. raw material supply
Adequate supply of local raw materials: Spain is an important agricultural producer in Europe with abundant grain, meat and fish resources, which are the main raw materials for pet feed. Adequate supply of local raw materials and low transportation costs help reduce production costs. Consumers are paying more and more attention to the sustainability of pet feed, and feed produced from local and renewable raw materials is more popular.
In terms of future development trends, the Spanish pet food industry will continue to develop in the direction of high quality, natural and healthy.
Consumers are paying more and more attention to the health of pets, and their requirements for the safety, nutritional value and functionality of pet food are also getting higher and higher. More customized foods for specific pet groups will appear on the market to meet the diverse needs of consumers.
At the same time, competition between brands will become more intense, and price wars are inevitable, but this is also the process of gradually establishing a new price range in the industry.
