Chicken Manure Organic Fertilizer Pellet Production Line in Poland

Chicken Manure Organic Fertilizer Pellet Production Line in poland

In recent years, Poland has witnessed a rapid expansion in modern poultry farming, driven by both domestic consumption and export demands within the European Union. With the growing scale of poultry operations, environmental concerns related to waste management, nutrient runoff, and greenhouse gas emissions have become increasingly prominent. Excessive accumulation of chicken manure not only poses a threat to local water bodies due to high nitrogen and phosphorus content but also represents a largely untapped resource for sustainable agriculture.

Against this backdrop, a major agricultural cooperative in northern Poland initiated a project to construct a state-of-the-art chicken manure organic fertilizer pellet production line. The chicken manure organic fertilizer pellet production line in Poland project aims to convert poultry waste into high-quality organic fertilizer pellets, thereby reducing environmental pollution, enhancing soil fertility, and contributing to a circular agricultural economy.

This organic fertilizer production line is designed with a capacity of 10–12 tons per hour, covering a land area of approximately 30 acres, with a dedicated green area of 300 m². The total investment for the project amounts to € 650,000 euros.

The client is a leading poultry cooperative in Poland, consisting of over 20 large-scale poultry farms. Established in the early 2000s, the cooperative has developed into one of the largest suppliers of eggs and broilers in the region. Their operations are characterized by modernized poultry houses, strict biosecurity measures, and a commitment to sustainable practices.

With increasing EU regulatory pressure on nutrient management and manure handling, the cooperative sought a reliable partner to design and implement a turnkey solution for chicken manure recycling. The client’s primary objectives were:

  • Efficient conversion of chicken manure into marketable organic fertilizer pellets.
  • Compliance with EU environmental standards, particularly regarding ammonia emissions, odor control, and nutrient leaching.
  • Integration of the new production line into existing farm operations with minimal disruption.

After evaluating several technology providers, the cooperative partnered with RICHI Machinery, leveraging our expertise in biomass and organic fertilizer processing technology.

Poland’s agricultural sector is undergoing a transformation driven by sustainability mandates and market demand for organic produce. Several factors motivated the project:

  1. Environmental Compliance: EU regulations limit the land application of raw manure due to risks of water eutrophication. Converting manure into pellets allows precise nutrient dosing and safer transport.
  2. Resource Utilization: Chicken manure contains approximately 1.5–2% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 1.2% potassium, making it a valuable raw material for organic fertilizer production.
  3. Market Opportunity: The domestic and EU markets show increasing demand for organic fertilizers, both for crop cultivation and for high-value horticultural applications.
  4. Operational Efficiency: By centralizing manure processing, farms reduce handling costs, mitigate odor issues, and generate additional revenue through the sale of fertilizer pellets.
  5. Sustainability Goals: The cooperative aims to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to Poland’s national goals for renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.

The project encompasses the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of a complete chicken manure organic fertilizer pellet production line in Poland, including:

  • Raw material collection and storage.
  • Composting and fermentation systems.
  • Crushing, mixing, and pelletizing units.
  • Drying and cooling equipment.
  • Screening and packaging stations.
  • Environmental control systems (dust, odor, wastewater).

Production Capacity: 10–12 tons/hour
Daily Operation: 24 hours/day, 300 days/year
Annual Output: Approx. 25,000–30,000 tons of organic fertilizer pellets

The organic fertilizer production project also includes auxiliary facilities such as administrative offices, workshops, and green buffer zones to meet local zoning and environmental requirements.

The primary raw material for this production line is fresh chicken manure, collected from the cooperative’s poultry houses. Additional raw materials include crop residues, wood shavings, and other organic bulking agents to optimize the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio during fermentation.

Material Preparation Steps:

  1. Collection: Manure is transported via automated scrapers and conveyors to the central processing facility.
  2. Pre-Fermentation Storage: Raw manure is temporarily stored in ventilated silos to regulate moisture content and prevent odor release.
  3. Composting/Fermentation: Manure undergoes aerobic fermentation for 7–14 days to reduce pathogens, stabilize nutrients, and eliminate odor. The system maintains an internal temperature of 55–65°C for optimal microbial activity.
  4. Moisture Adjustment: Post-fermentation, moisture is adjusted to 20–25% to meet pelletizing requirements.

RICHI designed the pre-treatment and composting system to minimize manual handling, optimize fermentation efficiency, and ensure consistent feedstock quality.

The production process is divided into several integrated stages, combining mechanical, thermal, and biological treatments to convert raw manure into market-ready pellets.

1. Crushing and Grinding

Fermented manure is transported to a high-efficiency crusher, where lumps and fibrous residues are broken down to a uniform particle size of 3–5 mm. This ensures smooth pellet formation and consistent nutrient distribution.

2. Mixing

The crushed material is conveyed into a horizontal mixer, where bulking agents and micronutrients are added. The mixer ensures homogeneous blending, which is critical for pellet durability and nutrient uniformity.

3. Pelletizing

RICHI supplied a ring-die chicken manure pellet machine optimized for organic fertilizer materials. Key parameters:

  • Die diameter: 600 mm
  • Pellet diameter: 6–8 mm
  • Capacity: 10–12 t/h
  • Motor power: 220 kW

The pelletizing process compresses the mixture under high pressure and temperature, forming dense, cylindrical pellets. Thermal and mechanical treatment during pelletizing also enhances pathogen reduction.

4. Drying and Cooling

Fresh pellets have a moisture content of 18–22%, which is reduced to below 10% using a rotary drum dryer fueled by biomass or natural gas. The dried pellets are then cooled in a counterflow cooler to ambient temperature, preventing condensation during storage.

5. Screening and Packaging

Pellets are screened to remove fines and oversized particles. Qualified pellets are transported to automatic bagging machines with a capacity of 2,000 bags/day (50 kg per bag), ready for market distribution.

RICHI provided the following core equipment for the chicken manure organic fertilizer pellet production line in Poland project:
